Air Filtration for Retail Spaces

Retail environments require a careful balance — maintaining clean air for customers and staff while protecting products from dust, smoke, and odor-causing contaminants.

CleanLeaf delivers targeted filtration solutions for diverse retail needs, from controlling pet dander and allergens in pet stores to reducing persistent odors in dispensaries and specialty shops.

Smell is the first thing a customer registers — before the merchandising, before the lighting, before anyone greets them. And it rarely stays put: odor from your space travels to the neighbouring tenant, the corridor, or the offices upstairs, and becomes someone else's complaint.

With proper unit placement, our systems exchange the air in your space 8-10 times per hour — reducing particulate by up to 99.7% with every pass, quietly enough that customers never register the equipment.

What Retail Air Carries

The specific contaminant changes by store type. The consequences don't.

Migration

Odor Reaching Neighbours

Shared walls, corridors, and return-air paths carry your smell into someone else's space — where it stops being an atmosphere issue and becomes a lease conversation.

Bioaerosol

Pet Dander & Allergens

Dander stays airborne for long periods and reaches customers who are sensitive to it — some of whom won't stay long enough to tell you why they left.

Odor & VOC

Product-Generated Odor

Dispensaries, specialty food, candle and body-care shops all generate strong persistent smells from the inventory itself — the thing you're selling is the thing creating it.

Merchandise

Dust on Stock & Displays

Settled dust on open shelving, apparel, and display pieces reads as neglect, and it adds staff hours that could be spent selling.

Smell arrives before anything else

A customer forms an impression of your space within seconds of walking in, and scent gets there ahead of everything you've invested in visually. It's also the hardest thing to fix with merchandising — no amount of good lighting compensates for a room that smells wrong.

Matching the Configuration to the Store

"Retail" covers a lot of ground. The right build depends on what your space actually produces.

Pet Stores & Grooming Dander, allergens, and animal odor in a space customers browse slowly. HEPA + Carbon
Dispensaries Strong persistent terpene odor, often with compliance and neighbour pressure attached. Heavy Carbon
Food Service & Cafeterias Cooking odor migrating into dining rooms, offices, and adjacent tenancies. Carbon at Source
Boutiques & Showrooms Dust settling on open stock and display pieces, plus general air freshness. Particulate

How It Works

CleanLeaf and Blue Ox units hang from the ceiling and run independently of your HVAC — no ductwork, no landlord conversation about modifying building systems, and no loss of the heating and cooling you're already paying for.

Units work together to create a circular air pattern through the space. As air flows through the high-efficiency filters, particulate is reduced by up to 99.7% per pass — then handed off to the next unit, which reduces it further. Carbon stages address the odor compounds that particulate filters can't.

This cycle continues until the room reaches a clean air standard, with the air exchanging up to 8-10 times per hour depending on your configuration.

Treating odor at the source is what stops it spreading. Our cafeteria case study placed units where the smell was generated rather than where it was being noticed — the approach that keeps odor contained to the space producing it instead of chasing it through the building.

Placement makes the difference. Units set to establish a continuous circular pattern draw contaminants up and away from customer areas. Key factors include square footage, ceiling height, foot traffic, what your inventory gives off, and where your space connects to others.

Our sales team can recommend a configuration matched to your square footage, customer traffic, and specific challenges.

Odor and particulate are different problems. Carbon adsorbs what you smell; bag and HEPA media capture what settles and what triggers allergies. Which stages you need depends on what your store produces.

Recommended Systems for Retail

Choose based on what your space produces and how much of it. All models use standard-sized high-efficiency filters to keep running costs low.

Carbon canisters carry substantially more media than an after-filter and hold capacity longer under constant load — the right choice when the smell is generated all day rather than in bursts, and when it's already reaching places it shouldn't.

Retail ceilings are rarely empty — track lighting, signage, sprinklers, and millwork all compete for the same space. The ductable form factor lets you put the unit where it fits and move the air to where it's needed, which matters in a leased space where you can't put equipment wherever you like. For larger footprints, the CL2500-CFP and CL2500D-CCP carry more media still.

CL1250D-CCPHE — Dander & Odor Together

A pet store has two problems at once, and solving only one leaves customers unhappy for the other reason. This configuration stacks a carbon stage ahead of HEPA media, so animal odor and the dander that keeps allergy-sensitive customers from browsing are both handled in the same pass — in a footprint that fits a leased retail unit.

OX1100-HE — Allergens Without the Odor Problem

Where the issue is what's suspended rather than what's smelled, a HEPA final stage captures 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns — dander, mold spores, and the fine particulate that customers with sensitivities react to. Without a carbon stage taking up space, more of the unit is working on the particles themselves.

CL400 — Portable, Small Retail Spaces

A small boutique, a grooming room, a back office, or a seasonal pop-up doesn't warrant a ceiling install — and in a short lease, mounting equipment you'll have to remove is a cost you don't need. A portable unit treats the space now and moves with you, which also makes it a low-risk way to see what filtration does for your floor before committing to a larger system.

Quick Answers to Common Questions

Air filtration system selection depends on:
• Room size (cubic footage)
• Air changes per hour (ACH)
• Type of contaminants (dust, smoke, mold, odors, VOCs)
• Required filtration level (bag filter %, carbon weight, HEPA, etc.)

Our team evaluates airflow dynamics and contaminant load to recommend a properly sized solution — not just a box with a fan.

Most CleanLeaf and Blue Ox models operate between ~48–66 dBA, depending on airflow setting and unit size.

Lower-speed settings and optional silencers are available for sound-sensitive environments.

Most units are plug-and-play on standard 115V power and include suspension or bracket mounting options.

For larger commercial or industrial applications, we may recommend airflow planning to optimize circulation patterns.

Filter life varies by environment and contaminant load. Typical ranges:
• Pre-filters: 1–3 months
• Carbon media: 6–12 months
• HEPA or high-efficiency bags: 6–18 months

Higher particulate or odor loads may shorten intervals.

Our systems are engineered to capture and control:
• Dust
• Smoke
• Mold and Mildew
• Odors and VOCs
• Fine particulate

Filtration stages may include pleated pre-filters, high-efficiency bag filters, HEPA media, and activated carbon depending on the application.

CleanLeaf offers a 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for authorized distributors and end users.

To make a claim, you must get approval first. Approved claims are resolved with a replacement or credit/refund. The warranty is void if the product was misused or used outside its intended purpose.

We also provide ongoing support and access to replacement filters.
